Irked Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou brought an interview with Sky Sports to abrupt end after being quizzed about winning a trophy in his second season.

Spurs took a first leg 1-0 lead in their Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool in North London to put themselves within touching distance of Wembley and a shot at ending the Premier League club's silverware drought. That sparked a throwback to the former Celtic boss note that he has consistently claimed trophies during his second season at a club.

Postecoglou won the Australian title with both South Melbourne and Brisbane Roar, and the Japanese league with Yokohama F Marinos - all in his second season or second full season in charge. He also won the Asian Cup two years after becoming Australia manager, and the Scottish title in both seasons with Celtic. But despite the stats backing up the bosses claim, the interview took an abrupt turn on air.

The Reds were left fuming after Lucas Bergvall escaped a second yellow card for tackle on Kostas Tsimikas - moments before firing Tottenham to a 1-0 win. Asked if his team were fortunate not to go down to 10 men for the tackle the post-match debrief took a turn as he sarcastically replied: "Yeah great question!

"No he wasn't. People misinterpret my comments from the other day. The rule is - and we have been told for quite a while now - that if an advantage gets played and as long as it's not cynical tackle, it's not a yellow card.

"We've been screaming for it for the last two months It's happened to us consistently, have a look at our games. To me that was pretty clear. That is the rules and we abided by them today."

Postecoglou remained fiery when asked about his previous assertion that he always wins a trophy in his second season. He fired back: "People can keep sort of mocking me about it, we will see." He would then walk away from the camera.
