Ange Postecoglou snaps at BBC reporter as Tottenham pressure mounts: 'Great way to start an interview'
Ange Postecoglou showed his frustration as he snapped at a reporter following Tottenham’s latest defeat at Everton.
Depleted Spurs’ wretched run of Premier League form continued at Goodison Park on Sunday, where they trailed previously goal-shy fellow strugglers 3-0 following a disastrous first half before a late rally eventually saw them lose 3-2.
It was another miserable day in what has been an exceedingly bleak winter for Tottenham, whose lingering injury crisis was made worse still by blows to Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson and Yves Bissouma as their list of absentees ran into double digits.
They have now lost 12 of their 22 top-flight matches so far this season to sit 15th in the table, now just four points above 16th-placed Everton and only eight clear of the relegation zone.
Despite the never-ending slew of injuries and promising campaigns in the cup competitions that could yet bear trophy fruit, such a dismal league run has seen serious pressure mount on manager Postecoglou, who accepted blame for Sunday’s dire first half on Merseyside after a formation switch that backfired badly.
The Australian’s irritation and frustration was evident during an awkward exchange with a BBC interviewer that followed the defeat to Everton.
The reporter asked: “Ange, familiar story, what are your assessments of that performance please?”
Postecoglou then looked up, puzzled as he replied: “Familiar story?”, before his interviewer clarified that he meant in terms of another defeat for Spurs.
The Tottenham boss was clearly annoyed by the approach and said: “Yeah okay, great way to start an interview.”
He then added: “Yeah look, it was a tough result for us. Obviously in the first half we struggled to get control of the game.
“Obviously I made some changes in the team that probably weren’t helpful in the end. Players kind of struggled to come to terms with it, Everton capitalised on it.
“Second half, the players put in the right response. Credit to them, but we obviously fell short.”
