'Angry' agent, Bayern Munich stance - Alphonso Davies to Man United transfer latest
Manchester United continue to be linked with Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, and the date is creeping closer when they will be able to take definitive action to try and land Ruben Amorim his first signing.
A mixed start to life in the Premier League is just about as expected for Man United's new manager given the squad he inherited, the new ideas he needs to implement and the fixture schedule he walked into. For now he is using the players that were already at the club, though soon there becomes the possibility to mark his influence when the January transfer window opens.
Rather than an immediate addition, one of the more ambitious signings the club are being linked with is Davies. The rapid Bayern full-back is out of contract at the end of the season, therefore from January 1 foreign teams will be able to present pre-agreement contract offers to the player.
Here, MEN Sport takes a look at the latest word on the situation as Amorim could potentially secure himself a major transfer coup...
Tensions 'rise'
Journalist Christian Falk of BILD claimed on Friday the relationship between Bayern officials and Davies' agent, Nick Househ, is deteriorating.
This supposedly started with the 24-year-old's representative having to cancel a trip to Munich to undertake contract discussions, with the meeting moving online. To Househ's surprise, sporting director Max Eberl then did not attend the call.
It is ultimately said that there is 'anger' amongst those that handle Davies' affairs over the way talks are being conducted, so they therefore wish to allow the situation to run into January and explore any opportunities that may present themselves - Man United and Real Madrid in particular.
Bayern 'feeling'
Contrasting reports state the feeling of Bayern about the process are at the complete opposite end of the spectrum.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany has provided quotes from the German club's other sporting director. "In principle, we are positive," says Christoph Freund.
This follows Sky Germany's update yesterday in which they claim contract negotiations are 'progressing positively' after initially stalling. They claim Davies has made concessions and is working towards a long-term deal, and Man United are 'aware' of these developments.
On the fence
Just to cause further confusion, Fabrizio Romano's latest update on Davies stands somewhere in the middle of the previous two reports.
"My information is that Alphonso Davies has not decided anything. The situation remains absolutely open. My understanding is also that as of now, Davies is not signing anything before Christmas or before the end of the year," the reporter explained.
"The idea is to consider all possibilities. Bayern are in contact with the player's management and are trying to extend his contract. But there are also Real Madrid and Manchester United. Nothing is imminent."
So, here there is no mention of any angst but Davies and his camp would still wait for foreign offers. Contract talks are still progressing.
