A club statement read: 'Everyone at Hearts is saddened to learn of the passing of former goalkeeper Anthony Basso. The Frenchman made eight first-team appearances during his spell as a Jambo between 2007-09. Our thoughts are with Anthony’s family and friends during this time.

Basso spoke well of his time in Scotland. He said: . "Despite everything, I must admit that my signing for Auxerre at the age of 15, the European clash with Adebayor and Evra's Monaco or the matches against Celtic Glasgow in front of 60,000 people still have a magical side. But I also loved meeting the big names in the field: Roux, Charbonnier, Cool, Martini, Spalletti, Hodgson."
