Anthony Gordon comments to Alexander Isak are just the tip of the iceberg for Newcastle United
Anthony Gordon's sizzling form almost feels like a side show to the main event that is Alexander Isak. But if Isak is Newcastle United's headline act, Gordon is more than a respectable supporting artist at the moment.
The Scouser has now netted four goals in the last four matches and is just two goals away from double figures. He is bang in form.
Just before the turn of the year Gordon told me that he felt he'd made a slow start to the new season but then insisted it was all about how a player finishes a campaign. As we reach the middle of January, Gordon - who missed a chunk of pre-season due to his participation in England's Euro 2024 squad - is now running hot.

After having a hand in Isak's opener, Gordon was then brought into the goalscoring stakes himself after the Sweden star burst through in search of his hat-trick. However, instead of going for glory himself, Isak had the presence of mind to see the bigger picture with Gordon well placed.
After seeing his first attempt at finding Gordon blocked, the former Real Sociedad star kept his composure and rolled the ball into the path of the Liverpool-born star to score goal number three.
As the cameras panned on to Gordon, he could be seen saying to Isak: "That's so unselfish, so unselfish." And that is exactly where Eddie Howe has his team at the moment.
While Isak and Gordon may be grabbing the headlines, the rest of the squad is functioning superbly. It's a togetherness that has propelled Newcastle into the top four of the Premier League. In his post-game Press conference, Howe was left purring over Sandro Tonali's defensive midfield work, Bruno Guimaraes' dynamism and Martin Dubravka's efforts to keep a clean sheet as tiredness kicked in.
Howe said: "I think we've got everyone contributing at the moment. Bruno is playing his part with his creative passing, Alex is contributing goals, but you look at the midfield three today, look at Sandro Tonali's contribution offensively to our win was massive. I thought he was excellent today.
"And, of course, then you've got Martin making some key saves at the other end to preserve our clean sheet, so I think the whole team deserves a lot of credit."
