Liverpool will look very different next season. As we enter Jürgen Klopp's final week as manager, that much is already clear. But exactly how different remains to be seen — and a front line where Anthony Gordon lines up alongside Mohamed Salah would certainly be a shake-up.

Yet that's the possibility that has been mooted by the Daily Star, which claims that Liverpool is eyeing up a move for Gordon. Newcastle United will reportedly need to sell 'one or two' key players in order to comply with financial rules, and the former Everton player could net his club a significant sum just 18 months after arriving at St James' Park.

It would take an offer of 'close to' $126m (£100m/€116m) to test Newcastle's resolve over Gordon, despite its need to raise funds. Nonetheless, he sits 'near the top' of the list Liverpool has drawn up for the post-Klopp era.

There has been some uncertainty over whether Salah himself will be part of this new cycle. But The Athletic reported recently that Liverpool expects him to be around for at least another season, and also intends to open contract talks.

In any case, Gordon is almost certainly not being eyed as the replacement. While he shows up in the data almost like an inverted version of Salah, there's little evidence of what the right-footer could produce from the right flank. Should the move happen, he would likely be ousting Luis Díaz from the side.

And Gordon would certainly relish the chance to line up alongside Salah. Speaking to The Overlap last month, he revealed his admiration for the Egyptian, admitting he has adopted one aspect of the 31-year-old's routine into his own process.

“My confidence comes from my preparation," said Gordon, who grew up a Liverpool supporter and spent time at the club as a youth player. "I don't know where it comes from, I wouldn't say anyone around me is anything like that. I just love learning stuff, and throughout my years growing up, I've taken a liking to learning about psychology.

“There may be people who do the same thing as me [visualizing how games are going to go], there may be loads who just haven't spoken about it. Some footballers like to think less, just turn up and play and trust their instincts. I just love the mindset of getting myself in that place before I'm already there.

“I saw Mo Salah talk about it — that's where I took even more interest, because I see him as an absolute machine and a winner. People like that, you're not going to go too far wrong following what they do.”

Liverpool.com says: It speaks volumes for a former Everton player to be speaking so openly about following the example of Salah, and not long after leaving Goodison Park. In the same interview, he admitted to idolizing Steven Gerrard growing up — for fans who got angry at Ronald Koeman's red Christmas decorations, this will come as a bitter blow!

You'd have to imagine Gordon would jump at the chance to move to Anfield if it arose, with his loyalties seemingly still lying more with the Red half of Merseyside. Whether Liverpool would part with such a significant sum is another question altogether, but there's a lot to like about the young winger.
