Anthony Gordon shows true colours after Newcastle to Liverpool transfer saga
Following last summer's transfer interest, if Liverpool were looking for a new answer from Antony Gordon they may have just received it. The attacker's passionate celebrations after he sent Newcastle United through to the Carabao Cup final were loud and clear.
As the Magpies battled to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Gordon to Liverpool - the club he supported as a child growing up in Kirkdale - became a real possibility. That was until the transfer fell through, and by his own admission it played tricks in his mind, impacting his 2024/25 form for Newcastle.
But watching Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg meeting against Arsenal at St. James' Park, the Ex-Everton star sent a clear message about where he wants to be.

Following a strike in January's first leg victory at the Emirates Stadium, Gordon followed up with another goal in the home leg to make the aggregate scoreline 4-0. That is what it would remain, meaning Eddie Howe's men are in March's final at Wembley Stadium.
But for Anfield chiefs, if they still had designs to recruit Newcastle's 23-year-old, his actions have just sent an obvious message.
Celebrating the goal - his eighth of the season, a neat touch, swivel and strike beyond David Raya - Gordon rushed towards the corner flag. While doing so he thumped the club crest on his black-and-white striped shirt before grabbing a fan's scarf thrown his way, then proceeded to swing it above his head.
The Reds have saved themselves to undertake a new wave of recruitment in the upcoming summer transfer market having not spent a penny this winter. There remains the possibility of Mohamed Salah leaving if he does renew his contract in time, thus leaving a hole to fill in Arne Slot's attack.
As seen here, Gordon's heart is with Newcastle so it may take a gargantuan effort to strike a deal. That said, Howe persists with hints that PSR continues to hamper the club's plans so bumper offers will not be easily turned away.
Since summer 2024, the player has also committed his future with a new St. James' Park contract.
He said: "I'm very happy here, I like living here, the team is very suited to me - and I'm here to win a trophy. The short story is we need to win a trophy. Winning a trophy here would be unbelievable because the fans have waited so long. To be part of that team who finally does it is a massive goal of mine."
If Liverpool were to overcome Tottenham Hotspur in their own semi-final on Thursday, he would be vying for that silverware against Slot's men.
Gordon added: "We (my family and I) have always felt settled because Geordies are so easy-going and so welcoming, very easy to speak to and always want the best for you. It's a very easy place to come and live, I think. I feel very connected to everyone - teammates, fans and everyone involved."
