Anthony Gordon has slammed talk that he could be tempted to swap Newcastle United for Liverpool - or anybody else in the Premier League.

In a fresh vow to stay loyal to the Magpies, Gordon would rather talk about landing the club's first piece of domestic silverware since 1955. After his recent goal against the Reds, Gordon celebrated with a "blah blah" gesture, later revealing it was aimed at reports that he was unsettled on Tyneside.

The Kirkdale-born Scouser has dismissed talk of him using Newcastle as a "stepping stone" as "total rubbish" before issuing assurances on other top notch team-mates such as Alexander Isak staying focused on the job in hand.

Gordon told Chronicle Live: "Because the club has transitioned so quickly, other fans and other media outlets just pick the players... when we play well, it's like 'He's got to move from Newcastle,' but that's not the reality. We're fifth in the table, we're a top club ourselves. It's a load of rubbish, really.

"The project doesn't really mean much to us, we all want to win now. People keep talking about the project from the outside because of how much the club has come on but that doesn't really mean much to us.

"We're trying to win now, we're trying to win cups now, we're trying to get back into the Champions League and if we do that then it'll no longer be called a project will it because it'll be what we want it to be.

"I think it's easy from the outside to say but we actually live it. We live our lives at the football club. If you start listening to outside news you're going to get distracted and it will take away from your performances. If you see the way we're performing of late, it's not the case here."

When pressed on his commitment to Newcastle, Gordon shrugged off any previous links with Liverpool and made it clear he would not have penned a long-term deal if he had any other intentions.

Gordon said: "My performances are going to say that the best. You see the way I run, the way I work hard for the team, that's going to say a lot more than me telling you anything.

"I said a couple of weeks ago, I've got a long contract here, I intend to see that out, I've got no plans of leaving. I'm here to win a trophy, I've got a lot of goals ahead of me before I think about anything else."

One of those goals is to hoist the Carabao Cup with Newcastle and the forthcoming two-legged semi-final against Arsenal gives Gordon the opportunity to become part of Geordie folklore. Not since the days of Wor Jackie have Newcastle saw the club's name etched on a major English trophy.

But Gordon is desperate to help change that, adding: "This period coming up is going to be massive for us because I know these last few games have been really good but it won't mean much if we don't carry on, especially away from home which is where we've got that challenge in front of us.

"We've got to keep consistency and then with the cup semi-final afterwards it's going to be a really interesting run of games."

Newcastle may have managed just one win in the Premier League over Manchester United in their history. And just one victory in the league over the Red Devils in 52 years.

But Gordon is perplexed when asked about Newcastle's poor record against the Old Trafford side. Gordon has actually tasted victory over Man United twice in the Premier League at St James' Park and was part of the team that trounced the Red Devils in the Carabao Cup 3-0.

Only last season's narrow 3-2 defeat, on a night when Gordon picked up a heel injury, is his only experience of defeat. With Gordon brimming with confidence after scoring a stunning strike against Aston Villa, with a smile he said: "We've done alright against them since I've been here! We were quite unlucky in that game at the end of the season, conceding three goals.

"I know they're going through a difficult period but it's still Old Trafford, it's not going to be easy. We've got to do what we do, it doesn't matter who we play."
