Anthony Gordon's 'ruthless' Newcastle United warning as Arsenal's Carabao Cup chances dwindle
Anthony Gordon has warned that Newcastle United must become "ruthless" if they are to stay at the top in English football.
The Scouser put in a steely display at the Emirates Stadium and showed no mercy in the second half as he snapped into challenges and produced fouls when he needed to. Gordon's season continues to get better and better with the England star buzzing after the 2-0 win the capital on Tuesday.
He emerged to tell reporters: "We have to be ruthless with and without the ball - all the top teams do it. We are a team and that's when we play at our best, when everyone's on the same page.

"To a man, everyone was top level. Coming to this place is so hard and Arsenal defend really well. It was always going to be a smash-and-grab kind of game for us, but we executed it perfectly."
Newcastle are now the second favourites behind Liverpool to win the Carabao Cup after Arsenal drifted out to 8/1 after the first leg deficit. But Gordon warned: "It would mean the world, but we cannot think about that. They can easily flip this fixture if we are not at our best levels."
Gordon's goal came after some great work from Alexander Isak to get into the box and force a save from David Raya before the ex-Everton man tapped home. When asked about Isak' contributions, Gordon said: "He was very good. He is the best in Europe, probably, right now, with the form he's in.
"The best quality he has got is that he is so humble. He is not scared to pass the ball. He's very unselfish, and his best ability is his raw ability on the ball."
