Arne Slot has admitted Joe Gomez is “not in a good place” as the Liverpool defender faces up to a lengthy spell out injured.

Gomez was forced off during the Reds’ win over West Ham on Sunday, with it being confirmed afterward that he had suffered a hamstring problem. He has since undergone a scan, which has not delivered good news for Slot.

The Liverpool boss confirmed during his press conference ahead of Sunday’s game against Manchester United that Gomez is set for a spell on the sidelines now, with the 27-year-old not expected to make a quick return.

“Joe [Gomez] is of course not in a good place when it comes to his injury,” Slot said when asked about his injury. “He's out for a few weeks, that's for sure.”

There is better news for Slot on his other injured players, with Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate set to return to training today (Friday) ahead of United’s visit on Sunday.

The pair have been missing since picking up injuries in the Champions League win over Real Madrid at the end of November, with Bradley suffering from a hamstring problem, while Konate picked up a knee injury after a late challenge from Endrick. The pair though could be back in contention to face United this weekend.

“Conor and Ibou will train with us today for the first time,” Slot added. “Curious and interested to see exactly where they are of course, they've worked hard to come back to the team, but the next step is always how do you handle team sessions.”

Liverpool.com says: That is a big blow for Gomez, who has done so well since coming back into the side and would have almost certainly started on Sunday had it not been for his injury.

You’d imagine with Konate only just returning to training that Jarell Quansah will get the nod to face United, which will be a big test for him given he hasn’t looked too confident this season. Hopefully he gets back to the sort of levels we saw from him last season, and he can give Slot something to think about before Konate is ready to return to the starting lineup.
