With Arne Slot now confirmed as Liverpool’s new boss, a busy summer awaits. The countdown is already on for his first game in charge of the Reds.

Slot of course takes over from Jürgen Klopp, who leaves Anfield after nearly nine years in charge. During that time, the German has restored Liverpool as a force in the Premier League and in Europe, having guided the club to its first league title in 30 years back in 2020, as well as claiming the Reds’ sixth European crown.

Now though, a new era is set to begin at Anfield. Slot will arrive from Feyenoord, having won the Eredivisie title last year and added the KNVB Cup this season. He will officially begin his new role on June 1, subject to receiving a work permit.

The new head coach will no doubt have his eye on some new arrivals, and will be working with new sporting director Richard Hughes in order to continue the rebuild that began in midfield last summer. Despite Liverpool showing a marked improvement compared to last season, more work is clearly needed on the squad before Slot can challenge for more silverware.

Nevertheless, big things will be expected of the new Reds boss after Klopp’s tenure. Slot will meet his new squad later this summer, with his first game in charge currently slated to be in the United States.

Liverpool’s pre-season plans for the 2024/25 campaign are yet to be finalized, although we do already have a fair idea of when the players could make their return to the AXA Training Centre. The Reds reported back for duty on July 8 last summer, with the players called up for international duty then returning on July 11.

It looks set to be a later date this time around, with the final of Euro 2024 taking place on July 14. That’s just under two weeks before Liverpool’s tour of the US gets underway.

So far, three friendlies have been confirmed, with the Reds facing Real Betis in their first game Stateside on July 26 in Pittsburgh. Games against Arsenal (July 31) and Manchester United (August 3) then follow in Philadelphia and South Carolina respectively.

With more details set to be announced on Liverpool’s pre-season plans, Slot’s first game in charge could come before that clash with Betis. By that point, we’ll also know what his first competitive game in charge will be.

The Premier League is set to confirm its fixtures for the 2024/25 season on June 18. The campaign is set to start on August 17, and Reds fans will no doubt be hoping for a favorable opponent to get the Slot era off to a winning start. says: The countdown is on for Slot's first game in charge. Chances are Liverpool will squeeze in one or two games before the US tour, and no doubt there will be more fixtures to come after the visit Stateside. No doubt there'll be more fans tuning in than usual to get a first glimpse of the Reds under their new boss.
