Liverpool will have several of their players walking a disciplinary tightrope as they prepare to face Manchester United this weekend. The Reds will host their bitter rivals at Anfield on Sunday afternoon as they return to Premier League action.

Arne Slot's side go into the fixture at the top of the league standings and currently have a six-point lead over Arsenal in second place. Liverpool will be looking to claim another three points and a repeat of the reverse fixture between the two clubs which ended in a 3-0 victory for the Reds at Old Trafford back in September.

Victory over Man United would see Liverpool maintain their advantage over Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table. However, Slot may have some disciplinary concerns going into the fixture.

One player who is set to return to the squad is Dominik Szobolszai, who missed the win over West Ham at the weekend through suspension. The Hungary international had picked up five yellow cards in the Premier League this season and was handed a one-match ban.

The rules for five yellow cards resulting in a one-match suspension applies across the first 19 top-flight fixtures of the season. Due to the postponement of the Merseyside derby in November, Liverpool will play their 19th Premier League match against Man United in Gameweek 20.

Liverpool currently have four players who are one booking away from being handed a one-game ban. Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Ibrahima Konate are all on four yellow cards so far this season.

Should any of the quartet be booked against Man United they would then be handed a one-game suspension in the Premier League. This would mean they would then miss the away clash against Nottingham Forest on January 14 in the top-flight, with yellow cards competition-specific and will not affect the Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur or the FA Cup third-round clash against Accrington Stanley.
