Arne Slot issues Liverpool Ballon d'Or statement after Trent Alexander-Arnold shared ambition
Arne Slot insists Liverpool remains a club where players can achieve their individual ambitions after Trent Alexander-Arnold and Rio Ngumoha both shared their dream of winning the Ballon d'Or.
Alexander-Arnold is undoubtedly closer to achieving that, although it remains to be seen if he will be at Anfield next season. The Reds vice-captain is out of contract at the end of the season and continues to be linked with Real Madrid.
Speaking to Sky Sports in October, the 26-year-old said he wanted to become the first full-back to win the Ballon d'Or. He said: "I believe I can. It's only the morning after you retire that you're able to look in the mirror and say, 'I gave it everything I got'.

"It doesn't matter how many trophies you win, or how many medals you've got. It matters what you give to the game and if you reach your full potential."
His assertion led to the likes of Jamie Carragher suggesting Alexander-Arnold was eyeing a move away from the club to achieve his ambitions. No Liverpool player has claimed the individual honor since Michael Owen in 2001.
Ngumoha, 16, has a similar career goal despite only joining Liverpool in the summer. He was handed his debut against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup and is tipped for a bright future.
"I truly believe I can win the Ballon d'Or one day. I want to be regarded as one of the best players to ever play football and be a legend of the game,” he said earlier this season.
Speaking to ITV ahead of the game, Slot was asked about the teenager and his lofty ambitions. The Dutchman said: "He is at a club where he can win the Ballon d'Or. Let's wait but it is far too early.
"He is a young kid that has been with us for half a season. He has trained mostly with the Under-21s but sometimes with us. But when he has been with us, he isn't afraid to do what he is good at - taking players on. I hope he gets the chance to show his quality."
