Arne Slot has disclosed that he's had a chat with Jurgen Klopp to prevent Liverpool from experiencing another Premier League nosedive like last season.

Liverpool was sitting pretty at the summit, five points clear after toppling Chelsea on January 31, but then faltered down the stretch to end up third, trailing champions Manchester City by nine points. Slot, who took over the reins, sought Klopp's insight into the late-season slump.

The current Reds boss has tweaked things to keep the team on track though he's keeping the specifics under wraps. "It's not something new," he remarked, via the Daily Mirror.

"I heard about the five points and I knew that in the first half of the season, the team were better than in the second half of the season. OK, what are your thoughts on why this has happened?

"Even the first time or the second time I spoke with Jurgen, we spoke about that. What was his opinion, why they maybe dipped a bit in the end? But I think you can't compare last season with this season, although maybe there are certain things we just try to implement already. You're now going to ask me what they are, but I'm not going to give you an answer!"

Liverpool was severely hampered by injuries in the closing stages, practically missing a whole side at times with key figures like Alisson, Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Diogo Jota, and Mohamed Salah sidelined. Fortunately for Slot, his injury list is nowhere near as extensive, keeping most of his star players match-ready.

Reflecting on the team's efforts, Slot expressed his views unequivocally: "I've said this season that every single point we have, we've deserved. If that was the situation last season as well, being five points clear, it's still a disappointment."

He further analyzed: "If in the first half of the season, maybe they were a bit lucky, then it's not a surprise that in the second half of the season, things changed. It's not to say that things cannot change now because we have to keep on doing the things we do."

Slot added with a word of caution: "We must not get injuries and all these kind of things. All the players are important, but there are a few who are a bit more important than maybe some of the others, so there's a lot to play for."

With Liverpool already through to the Champions League last 16, the former Feyenoord manager is expected to rotate his squad for the midweek clash against old adversaries PSV Eindhoven. Federico Chiesa could bag only his second start for the Merseyside club.

Chiesa, aged 27, has contributed a goal and an assist in his eight appearances so far, and Slot is eager to provide the Italian international with more opportunities on the pitch to boost his match fitness. Liverpool requires just a single point to lead the group stage, and there's potential for Conor Bradley, Jarell Quansah, Wataru Endo, and Harvey Elliott to also be in the starting line-up.

Liverpool.com says: Slot has done really well with the injury situation so far this season and that was the main thing that held the Reds back last year. It's why so many people are wary of fighting on all fronts. If he can carry on maintaining fitness, that will go a long way towards potential big silverware.
