Arne Slot reacts to emotional Jurgen Klopp Liverpool farewell in final Feyenoord interview

Arne Slot says he is hoping to one day leave Liverpool to the same fanfare afforded to Jurgen Klopp, as the new head coach outlined his pride at succeeding the outgoing manager.

Klopp won eight trophies during his nine years with the Reds that included a first league title for 30 years, the Champions League and the club's first-ever Club World Cup before leaving on Sunday on an emotional afternoon at Anfield.

The German departs as one of the most revered coaches of all time on Merseyside and Slot, whose three-year deal was confirmed on Monday by Liverpool, is looking to try and follow in his predecessor's footsteps by winning the fans over in the same way.

In a final interview with Feyenoord's official website, Slot said: "Yes, I am already privileged but then I would be really very privileged and the fun or funny thing is that I succeed a trainer (Klopp), perhaps in terms of status, or maybe I am sure one who has reached much bigger status at the club where he has worked for the past nine years.

"So, so I hope I will be allowed to leave in the same as he is leaving now or that I left here (Feyenoord) but there must be an incredible lot of [things] going well to be able to work that.

"Without having to come across as arrogant of course [Liverpool] is not the first club to join [the race] that has been reported in the past three years. That's the advantage of performing well that there are clubs interested in you.

"So then you gradually hit [form] and that used to sound arrogant but also [I am] used to [being] followed by that club that you couldn't have dreamed of four or five years ago.

"And yes, then you go from one great club - because we don't need Feyenoord either to make it small, Feyenoord is also just really large nationally and getting bigger internationally, and from the past it has always been been big - to one club that is currently family and now the Premier League that is even more highly regarded.

"So yes that is especially nice and a privilege that you [come] from AZ, which was also a nice club too and the Feyenoord and then also to Liverpool, that's awesome. All the more because I also think we will have a great group of players to work with."

Slot will officially begin the new role on June 1 before pre-season begins over a month later at the AXA Training Centre.
