Arne Slot brushed off chants from Nottingham Forest fans on Tuesday night that insinuated the Liverpool manager was cracking under the pressure.

The Reds came away from the City Ground with a 1-1 draw, and a point at the side second in the league will be taken as a positive even if the visitors missed several huge chances late on. But it was Forest who started on the front foot, scoring after just eight minutes when Chris Wood’s excellent low shot found the bottom corner.

Liverpool had registered three shots before then but the goal rocked the team. Suddenly the passing rhythm was off, there were a number of careless errors and slack passes, while after an hour the side was yet to register a shot on target.

The Forest fans certainly enjoyed Liverpool’s disjointed display and were heard chanting: “We’re in your head, in your head. Arne, Arne, Arne-Ne-Ne-Ne,” to the tune of 'Zombie' from the Cranberries.

Thankfully for Slot, his players rallied. The first shot on target in the 66th minute proved to be the decisive moment as substitutes Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota combined from a corner, with the latter heading in the equaliser.

From there, Liverpool dominated and Matz Sels had to be on hand to produce a number of big saves to deny Jota, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah. By the end, Liverpool amassed an expected goals of 2.28.

So, despite a poor first hour, Slot said post-match that he was pleased with his team’s performance. “I said to them at half-time don’t get frustrated, you will not get many chances, probably the game is going to be slow,” the Dutchman explained.

"But just keep focusing on what you have to do and hopefully you will get two or three chances and let’s try to score from that. I was completely wrong because they created chance after chance after chance.”

Asked about the Forest fans’ chants, Slot laughed it off and replied: “I thought they just liked the style of play my team had.”

The result leaves Liverpool six points clear at the top of the Premier League table, although that could be reduced to four if Arsenal wins Wednesday’s North London derby.

Results elsewhere were positive for Liverpool with Chelsea and Manchester City dropping points on Tuesday, although whether Slot still sees those sides as even outside challengers for top spot is another question.
