Arne Slot response to Liverpool transfer question speaks volumes as 'unusual' Tottenham claim made
The January transfer window may be rapidly becoming a distant memory. But that didn't stop Arne Slot being probed on the matter at the AXA Training Centre on Wednesday.
And when asked whether his insistence Liverpool didn't need to sign any players during the market set him aside from most of his counterparts, the Reds head coach couldn't help but have a little chuckle to himself in response.
"I don't know, maybe there are not many managers who have such a good squad as I have!" laughed Slot. "I've said it many times, we have a very good squad and if you look at the league table the players have shown the trust we have in them was correct.

"We didn’t have many injuries, not long-term injuries, in the moment the window was open. We did have some injury problems (earlier) with Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota and some others. But at the moment apart from Trent Alexander-Arnold they are all available.
"At the moment there is not a reason to add something to the team unless you have a chance in the market. That's something we saw last time with the goalkeeper we brought in (Giorgi Mamardashvili) as we saw there was a chance in the market. For now, we are happy with the team we have."
Liverpool, of course, were not the only club to keep their powder dry for the more accessible summer window, with Manchester City the only team in the Premier League top six to make a signing during the last month.
But while Slot will have the usual suspects from which to choose for Thursday's League Cup semi-final second leg at home to Tottenham Hotspur, the Londoners are likely to field a much-changed team from the one that earned a controversial 1-0 first-leg win in early January.
Spurs were busy in the transfer market and snapped up centre-back Kevin Danso and winger Mathys Tel on loan from Lens and Bayern Munich respectively. Both will be available at Anfield, along with a number of players who were injured for the first game.
And Slot admits having a month between the two semi-final matches has benefited Tottenham. "This is unusual," he said of the long gap between the games. "Not that it matters a lot, but if you play one week later then normally you face exactly the same team again, and with all the injuries Tottenham last time we played them, it would have been a bit more in our advantage if we played them one week later - although we lost against the ones they had fit then.
"Indeed, now they have two more players. I wonder if Micky Van de Ven is ready to play as he has a big impact on their team. It might change the quality we face compared to last time, but we were already not able to win against the team they played last time.
"If you reach the semi-final against Tottenham you know it's going to be difficult. But I think we will be better than last time."
Liverpool have never before overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit in a League Cup semi-final having three times previously been in the situation, although they have twice fought back from 2-1 down.
The defeat at Tottenham was one of only three games the Reds have lost this season. And asked if starting in arrears represents a mental challenge for his squad, Slot added: "No I don’t think I have to prepare them differently to any other game because from now until the end of the season and already the whole season and as long as Liverpool exists, if you play in this shirt you need to win the game. That's for tomorrow, that's for Sunday, that's for Wednesday afterwards and the game after that.
"Even if we go 1-0 down in the league or whatever tournament we are in, we want to win the game. That is also what we tried in the away game at Tottenham. We were close to getting the result until the last few seconds, we were down to 10 and conceded a goal.
"But nothing changes for this game compared to the others. If you wear this shirt and go out at Anfield, there's only one thing that is expected of you - and that's winning the game."
