Arne Slot sends Liverpool warning as Premier League title point made
Arne Slot has admitted that Liverpool have sent out a statement by beating Real Madrid and Man City, but insists it is far too early to start considering the prospect of winning the Premier League title. Having beaten the La Liga giants 2-0 in midweek, goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah saw the Reds emerge victorious by the same scoreline against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Liverpool are now 11 points clear of the reigning Premier League champions, who dropped to fifth in the table after results elsewhere went against them in the latest round of fixtures.
Meanwhile, Slot’s men boast a nine-point advantage over second-placed Arsenal.

And while the Dutchman admitted it has been a week to remember for his side, he pointed out that he hopes to achieve much more with the Reds.
“Yeah, it was (a statement),” he said. “Playing against Real Madrid, playing against Man City, teams that have been and are so good and with managers that have won so many trophies, it is always nice to come out in both situations as a winner.
“But the reasons these teams have won so much is they weren’t able to win once or twice, they were able to win every single three days.
“So we are really happy with these two wins but we also understand if we want to achieve more than this, then winning once or twice, even against these big teams, is not enough to win anything at the end of the season.
“If you want to win anything, it is not about what you are able to do but more about the consistency. Only a few teams have won from City or from Real Madrid once in a while but it is not about winning once or twice.
“If you want to win anything, it is all about consistency. These teams like Madrid, like City, I saw Arsenal yesterday and I saw Chelsea today, they are all capable of getting the same winning streak as we have so let’s not carried away by one or two wins.
“It’s all about consistency until the end of the season, keeping the players fit and keeping them playing with this much energy.
“To win something in the end, that’s such a long way to go and so many challenges you have to take, but it is good we are capable of winning against these teams in our own style.”
Meanwhile, Slot admitted that the first half performance in particular against City was one of the best he has overseen during his time at Liverpool so far.
“Especially the combination with the energy we had and the energy the crowd had,” he said. “I have experienced already a few nice moments here as a manager.
“Wednesday night was definitely one of them, but I think today stood out when it comes to the energy we delivered on the pitch but also the energy the fans delivered for us.
“What we all saw that only being 1-0 up at half-time, we would have loved to see a bigger margin.
“But I have watched this game so many times. If I had to play myself, I watched it back. I always made sure I could watch this game and it has always been great games.
“So maybe for the fans that are neutral, they liked that it stayed 1-0 and was tight until the end.”
