Liverpool manager Arne Slot is set to take his place on the touch-line at Villa Park as the Reds prepare to face off against Aston Villa in the Premier League this evening. Villa welcome Liverpool a month ahead of schedule because of the visitors' EFL Cup final commitments.

Slot, who has guided the club to the top of the Premier League table ahead of the likes of Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, lost his cool at the end of last week's dramatic draw with Everton at Goodison Park. He was sent off after full time by referee Michael Oliver for protesting against the allowing of James Tarkowski's injury-time equaliser.

The Premier League indicated that Dutchman Slot would then receive a two-match touch-line ban for 'using offensive, insulting, or abusive language', but the league's website soon withdrew that statement and it was later confirmed by The FA what the lay of the land actually was.

"It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or technical area occupants did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way following the final whistle," The FA's statement read.

"The Liverpool manager allegedly acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards both the match referee and an assistant referee after the match had finished.

"It is alleged that Liverpool’s assistant manager acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official, which led to his dismissal. It is further alleged that he acted in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official after being sent off."

Slot, and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff who was also charged, had until today (Wednesday 19th) to respond to the charge, but with that date falling on a match-day, and with no update from the FA at the time of writing, it's expected Slot will be allowed to be present in the away dug-out next to Villa counterpart Unai Emery tonight, while the process remains ongoing.
