Arne Slot shatters 3 Liverpool records and 2025 could see more history made
Arne Slot had big boots to fill when he replaced the iconic Jurgen Klopp in Liverpool hotseat.
Following in the footsteps in one of the most charismatic and universally adored managers in the club’s history was almost viewed as an impossible task by some critics. And while fist pumps in front of the Kop are now a thing of the past, the glory days appear to be on their way back to Anfield under Slot - who is happy to let his players take centre stage.
No, you won't see any over the top celebrations from the Dutchman, who prefers to go about his business quietly. But you could see Slot emulate his all-conquering predecessor by holding aloft the Premier League crown, a trophy Klopp only managed to get his hands on once during his nine seasons at the helm - albeit it was a first title in 30 years.
It's been a remarkable start for the ex-Feyenoord boss, who already has Liverpool fans dreaming of an unprecedented quadruple - a feat that has never been achieved before in English football. After 27 games at the helm, the Reds have stormed to 23 victories, three draws and just one defeat across all competitions. Their relentless start has seen them soar eight points clear at the top of the table and red-hot favourites to be crowned champions come May. Slot has shattered a few records along the way too...
Best away start
Slot's class of 2024 became the first team in the club's history to win each of their opening six away games of a season. Victories on the road at Ipswich, Manchester United, AC Milan, Wolves, Crystal Palace and RB Leipzig ensured the best away start in the club's 132-year history. Liverpool became just the seventh top-flight English side to do so too. Slot also became only the second Liverpool boss to win his first match at Old Trafford, after George Kay in 1936, when the Reds thumped United 3-0 in September.
Winning machine
As if that wasn't impressive enough, Slot etched his name in the record books by becoming the first Liverpool manager to secure 11 wins in his first 12 competitive matches. Not a bad start to his debut season.
Pacesetters
Slot's winning machine shows no signs of slowing down either as he's made the best start to a Premier League season EVER. Last month's triumph over Aston Villa saw him eclipse former Chelsea managers Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho by racking up 15 wins from his first 17 games in charge across all competitions. In comparison, Klopp's first 17 games in charge of the club saw him win just nine matches.
What's next?
It might be premature to talk about the possibility of a Quadruple before the New Year but Liverpool fans can dare to dream. Not only are they the team to catch in England, but Slot's side also proudly sit top of the new-look Champions League, boasting a perfect record of six successive wins. That's all but secured a spot in the Champions League last 16, while the pacesetters can book their place at Wembley by overcoming Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup. They begin their quest for FA Cup glory in January with a favourable draw at home to Accrington Stanley too, so all signs point towards 2025 being a famous year for the Anfield club.
