Arne Slot singles out 'underestimated' Liverpool star who is vital to title chances
Arne Slot has praised Dominik Szoboszlai after Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Ipswich Town and claimed the midfielder is ‘underestimated’.
Szobszlai put in another fantastic performance on Saturday as the Reds strengthened their Premier League title hopes. The empathic victory at Anfield saw Liverpool maintain its six-point lead over Arsenal, with a game in hand, but is now nine clear of third-place Nottingham Forest after it suffered a bruising 5-0 loss against Bournemouth.
Szoboszlai got the ball rolling on Saturday against Ipswich when he netted his third goal of the Premier League season after just 11 minutes. Slot said the goal, which Liverpool’s no.8 netted from the edge of the box with his left foot, is an example of the team’s evolution this season.

“I think that’s the development the team is in, because when we played Brentford we had 37 shots, a record in the Premier League for an away team,” the Dutchman explained after the match. “And then because he is involved in that team, he will probably take a few shots then as well.
“It is us, the players behind the ball, bringing our attacking players even more in promising positions than we did in the beginning of the season.
“Then if you zoom in on Dom, I think at the beginning of the season he would have played that ball to Mo [Salah], which most of the time was a very good choice because Mo can definitely score a goal as well,” Slot continued. “And now he decided to go for the goal himself and scored the goal himself.
“Nice for him because, in my opinion, he is a bit underestimated. Not by me, but he doesn’t always get the credits for the fact he is very important for this team because his work-rate is un-be-lievable.
He just keeps on running with the highest intensity, and that is so important for a team that wants to compete for something.”
After Szoboszlai’s opener, Salah got his name on the scoresheet before Cody Gakpo grabbed a brace. Leading by four goals, Liverpool did allow its standards to drop in the final 20 minutes, and Ipswich capitalized and scored via a late Jacob Greaves header.
The result leaves the Tractor Boys in 18th place but saw a rival gain further ground as Everton’s 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion took the Toffees seven points clear of the relegation zone.
