Arne Slot has spoken for the first time about rumours that he could be the next manager of Liverpool.

Slot has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp as the Reds' next manager at the end of the season. The German will depart from his role as Liverpool boss this summer, at which point a replacement will need to be appointed.

News emerged this week that Slot had become the leading candidate on Tuesday. As a result, speculation has increased around the 45-year-old's future at Feyenoord.

And now, for the first time since Slot emerged as the leading candidate, he has spoken about a move to Liverpool. His Feyenoord side are currently preparing to face Go Ahead Eagles in the Eredivisie on Thursday night, and he has arrived off the team bus.

Sky Sports reporter Gary Cotterill asked: "You're in the news," to which Slot replied: "I am, I can't deny that."

Cotterill then asked further questions to Slot about rumours that he could be in the Anfield dugout next season. Slot, for the most part, remained tight-lipped during the questioning but did add, "Tonight we are playing Go Ahead Eagles," as he entered the team hotel.

The ECHO understands that Slot is held in high regard by the Liverpool hierarchy as the search for a new manager continues. Fenway Sports Group's CEO of football, Michael Edwards, is leading the process of appointing Klopp's successor, which has been underway for several months.

Slot is not the only candidate that Liverpool are considering as the club's next manager. However, it seems that the Feyenoord boss is one of the frontrunners for the position as the end of the season draws ever closer.
