Arne Slot's really good Liverpool decision should have been made four days earlier
It wasn’t a pretty win for Liverpool against Wolves, far from it, but it’s always important to get points on the board. Especially when you’re challenging for league titles.
We’re all concerned by the nerviness of the display, especially in the second half. We didn’t really control the game, which is something we’ve been doing all season long for the majority.
We lost control in the second half. When the penalty got overturned, the second one, it affected Liverpool for some reason and gave Wolves a lift. And then their goal came. It was no surprise when it came because it had looked like it would happen, and then you fear the worst.

You fear the worst but fortunately we just about got it across the line. But there were some really, really poor performances out on that pitch, you have to say. And we really can’t afford to have too many players having an off-day at once.
There were three or four of them on Sunday who had a proper off-day. That really didn’t help us, when you have players playing well below par. I’d have given them only fives out of 10, so it didn’t help us.
Thankfully, the manager put Endo on which I thought was a really good move. We perhaps should have done the same against Everton for the last 10-15 minutes in my opinion, so we at least learned from that.
Liverpool need a new striker
Luis Diaz looked a lot brighter back on the left-wing. Both when switching position against Everton and from the start against Wolves.
It’s encouraging, but I think we’ve been struggling at centre-forward for the last few weeks really - with the exception of the Tottenham game.
Diaz has been in and out there and he’s done alright, don’t get me wrong. Jota’s been out injured and looks rusty and Nunez has had a few opportunities but isn’t scoring goals.
The wide positions, we’ve been alright. It’s not a problem because that’s where all the goals are coming from.
I wouldn’t know where to start looking when it comes to a new striker, but I do think we need one. I just hope we can find the right one in the summer. You need to find someone with a bit of ingenuity who can get us the first goal in games.
When you have a winger like Mo Salah who is scoring 20-odd goals plus every season, your centre-forward should be getting 20. But we haven’t had that. We haven’t had one that really looks capable of getting close to that number.
That should be a problem, and would be for most teams, but we’re covering it because we’re still scoring goals. But in the future it would be nice to have one.
We were naïve against Everton - but Doucoure was inciting a riot
Doucoure was inciting a riot after the Merseyside derby. You can’t do that to the away fans after the game. Especially after a derby and the last derby at Goodison. You’re inciting a riot by doing it.
Consider the feelings and emotions between the fans. And Liverpool fans are so emotive, and so far Everton fans - because we’re from Liverpool. We’re emotional people. We get wrapped up in it and we get caught up in it.
Everton deserved the result, though it was hard to take from a Liverpool point of view. But you can’t do that to the away supporters who are gutted about what has happened.
Curtis has reacted to it. Okay, maybe he shouldn’t have barged him but he’s only young. And he’s a Scouser, so Doucoure was inciting him as well. He should not have done it, Doucoure, he should know better.
We were too honest against Everton at times. Ndiaye dived twice to get advantageous cards for Everton but Gakpo, when he was pulled back, stayed up.
I praise him for staying up, but if it had been any other player, they would have gone down and got the man sent off.
There was also Konate and a slight push. Do I think it was a penalty? Not really, but he could have made it look like a penalty. People on other teams would have done it.
So I think we were a little naive in the Everton game. Not that I want them to do it. I applaud them for their honesty.
But at the same time, I’m a cynical man and have seen Man City over the years when they’ve been winning titles, and Arsenal too when challenging them to a degree.
