Arsenal have advanced interest in beating Liverpool to £50m Mikel Merino upgrade transfer
Arsenal will reportedly face a battle with Liverpool and Manchester United to complete one of their first signings of the summer transfer window.
The Gunners did not strengthen their squad during the January window, despite being linked with several potential new signings. There were rumours that Arsenal wanted to sign a striker before the window closed, with the likes of Ollie Watkins and Mathys Tel mentioned as potential targets.
It remains to be seen which players will be on Mikel Arteta's transfer wishlist for Arsenal this summer, and it seems that a midfielder could be on the agenda. However, it seems that the Gunners may have to battle some of their Premier League rivals for one of their rumoured targets.

According to Caught Offside, Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Larsson has emerged as a target for Arsenal ahead of the summer. Liverpool and Man United are also mentioned in the report as showing an interest in signing the 20-year-old at the end of the season.
The report claims that Arsenal's interest in Larsson is "advanced", but the same applies to Liverpool and Man United, with Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur also supposedly in the running. Frankfurt have reportedly placed a €60million (£50million) asking price on Larsson's signature for the summer.
Arsenal are reported to have already made contact with Larsson's representatives as they intend to bring the midfielder to the Emirates Stadium ahead of next season. It remains to be seen, though, whether the player will want to sign for the Gunners or remain in Frankfurt for another campaign.
Larsson has made 29 appearances for Frankfurt this season, scoring four goals from midfield, including two in the Europa League. The 20-year-old is also a Sweden international and already has eight caps to his name for his country.
