Mikel Arteta has provided an update on William Saliba, with the Arsenal defender currently out with a hamstring injury.

The 23-year-old has not been available for Arsenal's last two games, the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa and the 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb. The Frenchman picked up the hamstring injury in training in the build-up to the clash against Villa and there's hope he could make his return in the coming weeks.

Arteta believes that Saliba "definitely be in for next week", with this week's clash against Wolves probably coming too soon for the former Marseille man. The Gunners boss also issued an update on Myles Lewis-Skelly, who is nursing a knee injury and missed the Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Arteta said: "With Myles there's nothing serious on the scan so it will be a matter of today having a meeting with the medical staff and a training session and whether it's too early or not. With Willy it's the same. I think they'll definitely be in for next week but this week, let's see how it goes."

Arsenal were boosted by the return of Ethan Nwaneri and Riccardo Calafiori in midweek, although Bukayo Saka, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White and Gabriel Jesus all remain sidelined. Arteta was asked about White during his press conference on Friday, with the defender out with a knee injury since mid-November. It appears the Englishman still has some weeks to go in his recovery, though. "Still not available," Arteta said.

Asked if White could be available for the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle at the start of February, Arteta said: "He hasn't trained with the team yet but he's very close to doing that. He needs to tick a few boxes and then I think he will be with us pretty soon."
