Premier League clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham enter the FA Cup at the third round stage this weekend, in front of a backdrop of arctic weather blasting the UK.

The weather has already impacted the football calendar this term, with Storm Darragh in early December causing havoc for FA Cup second round fixtures.

According to the Met Office, temperatures across the country could drop well below freezing bringing with it snow and ice. This will present challenges of frozen pitches and public transport chaos for fans visiting grounds up and down the football pyramid this weekend.

Everton vs Peterborough was just one fixture that kicked off the round on Thursday evening, and even with that being hosted at Goodison Park there had to be a safety meeting before proceeding with the match.

So, all of Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs will be eagerly awaiting news of potential cancellations to their upcoming cup clashes.

First up over the weekend, Enzo Maresca's Blues host League Two's 23rd-place team Morecambe. Kick-off is at 3pm on Saturday, January 11.

With the match being held at Stamford Bridge, this could help ease fears of the tie being called off as the pitch is equipped with undersoil heating. That said, supporters will still need to be wary of the threat posed to public transport getting into the capital.

The Shrimps' match against Newport County was called off last weekend due to a frozen pitch, so they have had extra preparation time for this big meeting.

Afterwards Spurs are scheduled to take to the field this weekend. Their tie is against National League side Tamworth on Sunday, January 12 at 12:30pm.

The Midlands club have already shocked Macclesfield, Huddersfield Town and Burton Albion to reach this stage - now they are attempting the biggest giant-killing of the round.

But problems could arise from the non league team being the hosts for this one, with the match drawn to take place at the 4,963-capacity Lamb Ground just 13 miles north east of Birmingham.

They therefore do not benefit from undersoil heating. Tamworth's pitch is also fully artificial, so cannot freeze solid however the surface is still susceptible so long as there is moisture, plus snow is able to settle easier on astroturf.

As of Friday morning there has been no official word from either Tamworth or Spurs, with the home side's information at this stage only asking that supporters make appropriate planning to arrive at the ground as early as possible before kick-off. Turnstiles open at 10:30am.

Lastly, a huge all-Premier League clash sees the Gunners welcome Manchester United to the Emirates Stadium. Kick-off is pencilled in for 3pm on Sunday.

Arsenal hosted Carabao Cup duties on Tuesday night amid the cold snap without any lingering threat the game would be postponed, so it seems all but a guarantee this tie will go ahead.

As of now up and down the UK, tomorrow's League Two fixture between Carlisle United and MK Dons at Brunton Park has also been postponed, while Oldham Athletic's National League clash against Eastleigh has also fallen foul of the weather.
