Arsenal have confirmed Josh Robinson has left the club to join League One side Wigan Athletic in a permanent transfer.

The 20-year-old has been at the club since March 2016 at the age of 11. The right-back impressed during his time at Hale End and signed his first professional contract in July 2023.

Robinson made 65 appearances for the Gunners academy at Under-18s and Under-21s level, with 13 appearances coming for the Under-21s this campaign. While the defender did not make a senior first team appearance, he was named on the bench in four Champions League fixtures this season.

The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes."

The deal is the first bit of business Arsenal have conducted in January, with the window officially opening on Wednesday. football.london understands the club is likely to be reactive rather than proactive on the incomings front this winter, although a number of players could depart either on loan or permanently.

Mikel Arteta was quizzed about Arsenal's transfer plans last month and conceded that his side are "ready" to make a move. "Well, my focus honestly now is just about within the squad the resources we have to be as competitive as we possibly can," he stated.

"We have many, many options to do that. And if something unbelievable [becomes] available and if the club is willing to do it, we'll have to consider it."
