Arsenal handed huge advantage as they draw Bayern Munich in Champions League quarter-finals

Bayern Munich fans will be banned from attending the Emirates Stadium after they drew Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals.

UEFA have issued Bayern supporters with a ban from attending the away leg of their last-eight tie after fans threw fireworks onto the pitch during their 3-1 win at Lazio earlier this month.

Bayern were also fined €40,000 after travelling fans set off fireworks during their 2-1 win at FC Copenhagen in October.

The German club were given a suspended one-match ban from purchasing away tickets in December. The subsequent incident at Lazio triggered the ban.

Bayern will not appeal UEFA's decision, the club said in a statement.

"We have to accept this punishment. Not only were pyrotechnics set off, but also fired deliberately onto the field, directly endangering bystanders," Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said.

"This was such an explicit violation of the conditions of probation that an appeal is unfortunately futile.

"The fact we now have to play away without the support of our fans is a big blow. A small group of individual offenders have done a disservice to all our supporters and the team.”

Arsenal found out their quarter-final opponents when the draw in made on Friday.

The Gunners will be at home in the first leg against Bayern, and will face either Real Madrid or Manchester City in the semi-finals if they go through.

In the other half of the draw, Atletico Madrid take on Borussia Dortmund, while PSG go up against Barcelona.
