Arsenal were handed a second injury blow of the day against Everton as they sought to put pressure on Manchester City in the Premier League title race. Having started the game without Bukayo Saka following a muscular problem picked up in training, Gabriel Magalhaes failed to see out the final match.

He was forced off with just over half an hour left to play at the Emirates Stadium with his side locked at 1-1. The Brazilian went down following a collision with Toffees midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure and couldn't continue despite a restart in play.

Oleksandr Zinchenko replaced Gabriel. He is due to play for his country at this summer's Copa America. His chances of playing in that competition will now be in doubt having not been able to complete the game.

Saka's absence will also cause some concern for England ahead of Euro 2024. The winger picked up a knock during the week after being taken off early last weekend against Manchester United.

Saka's issue is thought to be minor. The good news for Mikel Arteta came with a return to the side for defender Jurrien Timber.

He came on for just a second appearance of his Arsenal career. The Dutchman had been out since the first game of the entire season.

Emile Smith Rowe was also brought from the bench to try and turn things in Arsenal's favour. It could prove to be the last time he plays for the club with a summer transfer exit possible for the Hale End academy graduate.
