Arsenal have another big test coming up, so Mikel Arteta will be hoping his players can prove their title credentials. The Gunners will lock horns with Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they both look to climb the Premier League table.

On Wednesday night, Arsenal enjoyed a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur. Though the Gunners earned the bragging rights over their north London rivals, they remain four points adrift of Liverpool, who have a game in hand, in the title race.

In an effort to bolster his side and close the gap, Arteta has voiced his desire to sign a new player or two this month. So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up the latest Arsenal news and transfer gossip.

Arsenal finally make Gyokeres decision

According to a new report from French newspaper L'Equipe, Arsenal are 'no longer reluctant to pay' the £83m (€100m) release clause in Viktor Gyokeres' contract. With such a huge financial decision believed to have been made, it would suggest that the Gunners aren't overly concerned about profit and sustainability rules and they're ready to make a big signing.

"We will see," the Sporting striker told Spanish publication Marca about his future last month. "There are many rumours circulating, but we are in the middle of the season and there are still many months left. We will see when the time comes what will happen."

When asked where he sees himself playing at the age of 30, Gyokeres replied: "Playing for one of the best teams in Europe. That is the objective."

football.london says: "Viktor Gyokeres would be a brilliant signing for Arsenal. He's just what the Gunners need. Mikel Arteta should've brought him to the Emirates Stadium in the summer!"

Frank rules out Mbeumo exit

Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow to their hopes of signing Bryan Mbeumo in the January transfer window. Speaking to reporters after Brentford's 2-2 draw with Manchester City, Thomas Frank was quizzed on the 25-year-old forward's future at the G-Tech Community Stadium.

The Bees boss was asked if there's a chance that Mbeumo leaves this month. Without hesitation and avoiding any doubt, Frank quickly replied: "No. So, very easy to answer that question!"

Despite the Brentford manager's admission, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United remain interested in signing the Cameroon international, according to French publication RMC Sport. The report states that Brentford will want more than €50m (£42m) for Mbeumo's signature.

football.london says: "Bryan Mbeumo would be a great signing for Arsenal, but I'm not sure he'd be happy to play second-fiddle once Bukayo Saka returns from injury. It's difficult. I still think Nico Williams would be perfect. He can play on either flank – and, of course, he's class too."

Sesko's agent quizzed on Arsenal interest

Benjamin Sesko's agent has revealed whether or not the striker plans to leave RB Leipzig this month. Speaking recently on Slovenian TV channel Arena Sport, Elvis Basanovic said: "I think you should ask Mr. Arteta about that.

"But I think Sesko could suit many clubs because he has different football skills. He can play alone in attack, with two strikers, a little further back, he has height, speed, technical speed."

When pushed on whether Arsenal had made enquiries, Sesko's agent added: "I can't answer that question for you."

Basanovic was also asked how much it would take for RB Leipzig to consider selling Sesko. He added: "I don't think Leipzig would be satisfied with any compensation at the moment, Leipzig does not want to sell Benjamin Sesko because they really value him immensely."

football.london says: "At first, I interpreted this as Benjamin Sesko's agent issuing a hands off, but now I see it as a 'come and get me'. I think Elvis Basanovic is basically saying, 'hey big clubs in Europe, remember my client? Arsenal want him, but I can't say that, so come and start a bidding war.' Or maybe I'm going mad and he's telling the truth!"
