Arsenal given huge Matheus Cunha update as Mikel Arteta makes 'confident' transfer admission
Arsenal have been given an update on Matheus Cunha. The 25-year-old forward has been heavily linked with numerous Premier League clubs during the January transfer window following his impressive performances for Wolves.
Cunha, who sees his contract at Molineux expire in June 2027, has featured 22 times in the English top flight this season, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists. Despite his best efforts, the Brazil international has struggled to drag Vitor Pereira's side out of the bottom three.
His eye-catching displays haven't gone under the radar though, with Arsenal reportedly interested in wrapping up a deal. According to the Mirror earlier this month, the Gunners are joined by Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest in the race for Cunha's signature.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Wolves' clash against Aston Villa on Saturday, the Wolves boss was asked for an update on the Brazilian's future. As quoted by the BBC, Pereira said: "He is doing good work, trying to come back to his potential and I'm happy with the work. I hope he can help us in the next game."
Cunha looks set to stay at Molineux this month, but he faced an uncertain future not too long ago. Following Wolves' defeat to Chelsea midway through the January transfer window, Pereira slammed the forward for his attitude.
"He can be frustrated as he wants to win, but everyone in the dressing room wants to win," said the Wolves boss. "I don't like this body language. I want someone, as a captain, trying to help the team - running, suffering and fighting all together. But this is something I can understand. Next time, I won't understand."
Pereira added: "This is something I cannot understand. Again, it is the frustration - which I understand - but we need to be together. Together we can fix the problems and stay in the Premier League.
"If we start complaining about this and that, this is not the way. He is committed to Wolves but when you keep hearing about other clubs, then it is human [to be distracted].
"But he needs to put his mind on his targets and increase his level after injury and help his team again with his quality. The team needs him with good energy and not with frustration. He must slow down and put his mind in the right way."
Despite having seemingly missed out Cunha, Arteta remains 'very confident' that Arsenal can bolster his squad before the transfer windows slams shut on Monday night. The Gunners boss said: "I’m very confident with the work that the club is doing and exploring every single opportunity that we believe can have an impact on the team.
"That’s certainly the case and if we can agree something we will. If not, we won’t," added Arteta. "We are trying everything that we can, but I don’t want to give any reassurance or not.
"I don’t know, it doesn’t depend only on us, so our intention is clear but the possibilities are affected by three parties..."
