Arsenal get green light to complete striker transfer after bizarre Mikel Arteta exchange
Arsenal are actively looking to sign a striker in the January transfer window. However, time is running out.
There are just ten days of the transfer window remaining, with all deals needing to be completed by Monday, February 3.
Arsenal have, as yet, not signed anyone in the winter window, nor has anyone left the Emirates Stadium. But there is a growing need for the Gunners to sign a frontman.

The likes of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have been linked with a move to north London, but all three are likely to require large transfer fees. The winter window is not one for value signings usually, as clubs do everything in their power not to diminish their squads mid-season.
Arteta has given the Arsenal hierarchy the green light to complete a deal, however, insisting that he is "short" of numbers and that bringing in a new face is necessary, although he reiterated it needs to be for the right person.
The subject of transfers was high on the agenda for the media when it came to his pre-match press conference ahead of the Wolves game in the Premier League this weekend.
And Arteta was involved in something of a bizarre back and forth with a reporter when it came to signing a frontman.
The Gunners boss was asked: "There's so much noise outside the club about Arsenal need to sign a forward but you clearly don't share that same sentiment, do you think it's essential that you sign a forward or would you be very happy not?"
When the "clearly don't share that same sentiment" quote was directed his way, Arteta looked confused and frowned.
"I don't share what? Have I ever said no to a striker?" he asked.
The Sky Sports reporter continued: "No but you don't feel it's a necessity do you?" with Arteta replying: "How do you say that?"
It continued with the Sky Sports reporter pushing on: "Do you feel it's a necessity?" Arteta replied: "I don't understand the question."
There was a breakthrough soon after when the reporter said: "I'm saying so many people outside the club think Arsenal have to sign a forward."
That got Arteta going. "So what is my opinion that's what you're asking?" he said. "Ok. My opinion is clear, we lost two very important players in Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus so we lack goals, we lack people, we lack options in the front line, it's clear."
When pushed on if it was essential to complete a signing, Arteta added: "If we can get the right player, that's what we're actively looking at. Any player? No. Someone that makes us better and has an impact on the team. We need some help, we're very short already but the team is coping. We have to do what is right for the club."
It was a bizarre exchange and Arteta was clearly perturbed so early on in the press conference. But the message from the boss is clear: Arsenal want and need to sign a forward in the next ten days.
