Arsenal are in real danger of running out of time to strengthen their squad before the end of the January transfer window. The Gunners haven't made a single first-team signing so far this month.

A new striker is said to be the priority for Mikel Arteta, who is keen bolster his front-line. Speaking about his desire to sign a centre forward, Arteta said in his pre-Girona press conference on Tuesday: "Well, there are situations open and I always say the same. If we can improve the squad with players that can impact us for now, for the future, we will try to do that if it is the best thing for the club - and I stand on that."

Benjamin Sesko, Evan Ferguson, Matheus Cunha and Jhon Duran are among the big names that have been linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium. With this in mind, football.london have taken a look at the latest transfer rumours surrounding the Gunners - while also providing out thoughts on those snippets;

Nypan move

Arsenal are at the front of the queue to sign Sverre Nypan - with competition from Manchester City's sister club Girona. The 18-year-old Norwegian prodigy, likened to Gunners skipper Martin Odegaard, impressed at Rosenborg last term. With 18 goal contributions in 33 games, he helped his team to a fourth-place finish in the Eliteserien.

Now, with just under a week of the January transfer window to go, The Guardian claims Arsenal are "hopeful" of clinching a deal for the central midfielder, despite interest from Aston Villa and Tottenham. Nypan was spotted in Erling Haaland's private box during City's 3-1 victory over Chelsea on Saturday, alongside his agent Rafaela Pimenta.

football.london says: Although signing a midfielder is not Arsenal's priority, getting in Nypan under the noses of some of their rivals, including Villa and Tottenham, would be an astute piece of business. He's very highly-rated - and has a bright future ahead. Eighteen goal contributions in 33 games is no mean feat and Nypan could add that something extra to Arsenal's midfield going forward. But if Arsenal are going to sign just one more player before the end of the window, a striker should be the one - and not another midfielder. The Gunners are well stocked in that area.

Ferguson interest

Bayer Leverkusen appear to be leading the race to snap-up Evan Ferguson - with Arsenal among several Premier League clubs also interested in signing the Brighton striker. Mikel Arteta still needs attacking reinforcements with Ferguson among many names linked with the Gunners.

According to Ronan Murphy of Football Transfers, the German champions are now "in talks" to sign the Irishman - with Victor Boniface expected to move to Saudi Arabia.

football.london says: Arsenal losing out to Bayer Leverkusen for Ferguson wouldn't be the end of the world, even if Arteta's men do need to strengthen up front before the end of the window. Ferguson's injury record is not great and it's uncertain whether he would be able to hit the ground running in north London, due to not playing a single minute since December 21. His form has also been concerning so far this season, as well, having scored just once in 14 matches for the Seagulls.
