Arsenal handed Myles Lewis-Skelly double boost after Mikel Arteta claim

Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly is on the verge of completing a new deal following a breakout season, according to reports.

The 18-year-old has emerged as a starter for Mikel Arteta's side after cementing his place in the right-back berth at the Emirates Stadium. The academy graduate has made 20 appearances in all competitions after initially impressing in pre-season but with his role within the first-team enhancing, there is a suggestion that he is close to agreeing an extension in north London.

According to TBR Football, Lewis-Skelly is closing in on a bumper new contract at the Gunners, almost a year after penning his first professional contract when he turned 18. News of a possible extension coincides with reports that he isn't just impressing the Spaniard, it has been suggested that his impressive displays for Arsenal have caught the eye of new England manager Thomas Tuchel.

The German will name his first Three Lions squad in the coming months ahead of his first batch of fixtures in March. Lewis-Skelly will be hoping to continue his good form which will enhance not only his selection hopes but boost Arsenal's battle to win the Premier League.

After his display during the win over north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur this month, Arteta raved over the teenager. He said: He was phenomenal today.

"He’s a real personality you know, he has so much drive and he has an attitude about him, but you have to play against Kulusevski and Johnson here, it’s not easy, the way he handled the situation and the occasion as well, it was tough I think."

However, they are due to be without Lewis-Skelly for the next three matches after he was controversially sent off during the first-half in their win over Wolves. The England youngster was ruled to have endangered Matt Doherty after the defender was tripped whilst they looked to counter-attack.
