Arsenal are reportedly keeping an eye on Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha as an alternative to RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.

football.london reported in the summer that a striker is at the top of Mikel Arteta's wishlist. A profile for that player was developed under former director Edu and Sesko was seen as the player that fitted the mould perfectly.

His strength, height and speed were all seen as positives but the Gunners were left disappointed when he decided to sign a new contract in Germany. According to The Athletic, Sesko remains a player on the radar for Arsenal but there is an acceptance that he is unattainable midway through the season.

As such, a move for him is more likely in the summer. But, if that cannot be pulled off, it is understood that Cunha could be targeted as an alternative.

It is claimed that Arsenal are long-term admirers of the Brazilian, who has scored nine goals in 18 appearances. While the Gunners may want to sign him in January, it is thought that Wolves are desperate to keep hold of Cunha as they aim to avoid relegation.

Should the West Midlands club be relegated from the Premier League in the summer, a deal for Cunha could be easier to negotiate. Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams remains a player of interest for the North London club but despite Bukayo Saka's injury, a move in January also seems difficult.

Like Sesko, Williams is unlikely to be available in January and the Gunners will need to be patient to sign him.
