Brentford star Yoane Wissa is on Arsenal's transfer shortlist as Mikel Arteta seeks January reinforcements, a new report has claimed. The Gunners have been hit by four attacking injury blows in the last three weeks and therefore the need for additions in the frontline has grown significantly.

Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling both picked up injuries before Christmas and though the latter has returned, Saka is expected to miss the next few months. Ethan Nwaneri then suffered a minor muscular issue earlier this month, but he is in line to return soon.

Following that, Gabriel Jesus suffered a serious knee injury and is expected to miss the next nine months at least. Though Arsenal scored twice in their North London Derby win against Tottenham, problems in attack were still clear with Arteta offering a major transfer update after the game.

"Yes, for sure, because we lost two big players - Bukayo could be out for three months, and Gabby is going to be out for a long time too," Arteta said when asked about signing a new forward. "We are going to try for sure. We are actively looking.

"We have lost two very important players; we have 14 players in the squad, and we play every three days. So, we will try, and let's see what we can get." Benjamin Sesko, Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Dusan Vlahovic have all been linked but now a new name has emerged.

According to the Telegraph, Wissa is on Arsenal's list of forwards but they will likely face stiff competition from Nottingham Forest with Nuno Espirito Santo's side targeting a move this month if Taiwo Awoniyi leaves for West Ham.

Chris Wood's form and Niclas Fullkrug's latest injury have seen the Hammers look at Awoniyi as a potential short-term solution. If that move does come to a fruition, the Gunners may be forced to act on their Wissa interest if he is the player they would like to sign.

Given Thomas Frank's firm stance on a potential departure for Bryan Mbeumo, the same stance for Wissa will likely be taken. Nonetheless, it is certainly interesting to see Arsenal being linked with the 28-year-old given his Premier League experience and impressive shot conversion rate with 12 goals to his name this season.
