Arsenal injury update as fresh blow dealt for Carabao Cup second leg vs Newcastle
Arsenal could be without a number of key players for the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle next month. Eddie Howe's side, who boast a 2-0 lead after the first leg, take on the Gunners at St James' Park on Wednesday, February 5.
Goals from Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon earned the Magpies a deserved win at the Emirates on January 7, and it has put them in a commanding position to progress to the final. Despite Newcastle's advantage, there is still some concern that the Gunners could mount a fightback and spoil the party.
It's not out of the question, as Mikel Arteta's men are capable of putting teams to the sword even if they haven't been at their best of late. However, the Gunners might not have a couple of their star men available for the trip to Tyneside - news that could no doubt boost the Toon Army.

Myles Lewis-Skelly, who has been a shining light since breaking into the first-team fold this season, missed Wednesday's Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb with a knee injury, and Arteta doesn't know whether he will be back to face Wolves this weekend.
"I am not sure [if Lewis-Skelly will be fit to face Wolves on Saturday]," said Arteta. "He jarred his knee in the game against Villa and he thought it was okay when he finished the game. The next day it wasn’t bad and then yesterday he wasn’t feeling right, and so he started the session and he wasn’t feeling good.
"So, we need some more tests tomorrow. Hopefully it is nothing big, but the games are coming very fast."
Asked if Lewis-Skelly needs a scan, Arteta said: "Yeah, we need to [do that]."
William Saliba is another that might be doubtful to face Newcastle in less than two weeks time. He has missed the last two matches with a hamstring issue. Arteta is hopeful that Saliba will be back fit to face Manchester City on February 2 - three days before the clash with the Magpies.
Bukayo Saka is certain to miss the game against Newcastle after surgery on his hamstring last month. The 23-year-old is expected to be out for three months, meaning he isn't available for the second leg.
Also sure to be out is Gabriel Jesus, who injured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament against Manchester United on January 12. The Brazilian is set to be out for the coming months following surgery.
Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu remain doubts as they continue their recovery from respective injuries, while Riccardo Calafiori and Ethan Nwaneri returned to the fold against Dinamo.
