Liverpool have been playing catch-up when it comes to fixtures in the bank with their Premier League title rivals. And they will continue to do so for the next month at least.

The Reds have a game in hand on title rivals Arsenal after seeing the Merseyside Derby away at Everton - the final one at Goodison Park - postponed at the beginning of December due to Storm Darragh.

Arsenal know that no matter how well they do in their Premier League fixtures, Arne Slot's side still have that buffer of a game in hand to give them the opportunity to open up a gap of three more points should they win it.

As things stand the Gunners are six points adrift of the Reds at the top of the table. But that would be nine points were Liverpool to win that game in hand - a seemingly insurmountable deficit at this stage of the season.

The Merseyside Derby has now been rearranged, however, for Wednesday, February 12, meaning things will be evened up in the games played column of the Premier League table in just under a month's time.

There are four rounds of Premier League fixtures between now and then and there could be any number of points between the two title rivals before that match is played.

Arsenal face a tough run of fixtures between now and then, with a North London Derby against fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur this midweek, before a clash with Aston Villa, a game away at Wolves and then a home game with Manchester City.

Liverpool, meanwhile, take on Nottingham Forest and Brentford away, before a home game with Ipswich Town and then a trip to Bournemouth.
