Arsenal line up £60m title race gamble as Liverpool watch on
Liverpool and Arsenal are going head-to-head in the Premier League title race, and one club seems to be blinking first when it comes to making changes to their squad. The Reds currently have a six-point lead over the Gunners in the league standings and have a game in hand.
With the January transfer window open, Liverpool have the chance to strengthen their squad should they wish to do so. The Reds have until next Monday to complete any new signings, but with less than a week until the deadline, there are yet to be any new faces arriving at Anfield.
Arsenal, though, appear to be making a late move in the transfer window. Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Gunners have made a £60million bid to sign Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins. It has been claimed, though, that Villa have rejected the bid and are said to be unhappy with the timing of the offer just before their Champions League tie against Celtic.

Arsenal have been linked with a host of potential new strikers to try and help them in their bid to catch Liverpool in the title race. The Reds are well-stocked in the forward department but have still been linked with potential reinforcements being added to the squad.
Three Liverpool players have reached double figures for goals in all competitions this season (Mohamed Salah - 22, Cody Gakpo - 14 and Luis Diaz - 12). Watkins has not been directly linked with a move to Anfield, but there have been rumours that a new No.9 could be targeted in the future.
Darwin Nunez has six goals in all competitions for Liverpool this term. The striker was linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League in the early days of the January window and remains under contract with the Reds until 2028.
