Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola have both confirmed that their star center-backs won’t be available for this weekend’s Premier League games.

Manchester City, fresh from another midweek Champions League collapse, hosts Chelsea on Sunday and should have the three January signings - Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Omar Marmoush - all available.

But the reigning champions will be without Ruben Dias. Guardiola confirmed ahead of the game that the Portugal international sustained an adductor injury in Wednesday’s loss to Paris Saint-Germain and won’t be fit to face Chelsea.

Guardiola explained in Friday’s press conference that he is unsure how long Dias will be absent for, while Jeremy Doku, who missed the PSG match, is out too. City also remains without Nathan Ake, Rodri and Oscar Bobb.

Opponents Chelsea are expecting Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Romeo Lavia, Mykhailo Mudryk and Omari Kellyman to miss out at the weekend. Levi Colwill and Enzo Fernandez could be back for the trip to Manchester, and Enzo Maresca will most probably issue an update ahead of the match.

As for Arsenal, it will not be able to call upon William Saliba’s services again this week after missing the last two matches due to a hamstring injury. Arteta revealed on Friday that the Frenchman will ‘definitely be in for next week’, but Saturday’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers is likely to come too soon.

Myles Lewis-Skelly also missed the midweek win over Dinamo Zagreb and Arteta said he could be back this weekend, with his knee injury ‘nothing serious’. The Gunners still remain without Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal is six points behind Liverpool and have played an extra game. That’s the exact same position as Nottingham Forest, who will make a late fitness call on Callum Hudson-Odoi ahead of Saturday’s clash with Bournemouth.

“He felt his groin very tight. He was in a lot of pain,” Nuno Espirito Santo saidwhen asked about the winger. “He has been out for a couple of days. We have to assess and see whether he is available or not.”

As for Liverpool, Arne Slot confirmed in his pre-match briefing that Curtis Jones won’t be available this weekend following the injury he sustained during Tuesday’s win over Lille. The Dutchman said Jones could be back next week, but Joe Gomez and Diogo Jota are longer-term injuries.
