Arsenal must immediately sanction January transfer for Mikel Arteta amid latest injury scare
Mikel Arteta could see several Arsenal stars pick up injuries over the next few weeks if no January signings are made. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus are currently among those ruled out because of long-term injuries with Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu, despite both returning to training recently, also unavailable.
The Gunners were also without club captain Martin Odegaard for the 1-0 win against Wolves but Riccardo Calafiori, William Saliba and Myles Lewis-Skelly were able to return. The latter's afternoon ended prematurely however, as he was controversially sent off just before half time.
Arteta and his players were furious by the decision but they stuck to the task at handed and after digging deep were rewarded when Calafiori, off the bench, scored the winner just a few minutes after Wolves also went a man down following a second booking for Joao Gomes.

Given the injury issues he has faced, Arteta may have preferred to ease Calafiori back into action with similar action taken for Nwaneri but the absence of Odegaard saw him required to play centrally. Joining him in midfield from the off was Declan Rice and Thomas Partey.
Due to so many players being out, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard were unsurprisingly named as the winger duo. Meanwhile, after his goal and assist in the week against Dinamo Zagreb, Kai Havertz remained up top. The Germany international had a number of chances but failed to make it 15 goals in all competitions this season.
While his output was not too impressive at Molineux, his work ethic absolutely cannot be questioned as a video showed him fall to the floor in sheer exhaustion at the final whistle. While his teammates celebrated the victory, with Rice getting a new lease of life, Havertz received treatment from Arsenal physios.
Though it looks to only be a minor issue, there should be some major concern that if Havertz suffers any injury there is no player in the squad who can replace him. Arsenal are yet to welcome any new signings in January but something has to give in the final week of the winter window.
Signing any of Alexander Isak, Benjamin Sesko or Nico Williams over the next eight days appears highly unlikely, but additions in the frontline are desperately needed. A loan arrival from abroad is plausible especially with it hard to imagine that players arrive for anything other than a significant fee.
At least one signing looks set to be made this month with Arsenal advancing in talks for 18-year-old Rosenberg midfielder Sverre Nypan, according to David Ornstein of the Athletic.
The teenager making an immediate impact is unlikely with it clear as a result, Arteta needs ready-made options.
