David Raya has urged Arsenal to learn from “silly” red cards that could risk their Premier League title bid.

The Gunners have seen three players dismissed in their last six league games, with points dropped each time from conceding when down to 10 men.

Raya, ahead of the clash against title rivals Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium, has revealed that discipline has been addressed by Mikel Arteta to his squad, particularly the second yellow cards for Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard for kicking the ball away.

William Saliba was given a straight red card last weekend against Bournemouth and will miss the clash against Arne Slot’s team.

“We just need to learn from the mistakes we have made. It’s the third time in eight games [in all competitions] this season that we’ve had a man sent off,” Raya said.

“A red card changed the contest completely in every game. It is hard enough to win a game in the Premier League with 11 players, imagine it with 10 players in three games this season! We just have to learn from it and move forward.

“Of course we are not trying to get the red cards, especially Declan’s and Leo’s. They were a little bit silly in that way. Of course, Saliba is just trying to do the right thing and got sent off which in my opinion is just a yellow. But we need to focus on ourselves and don’t make those type of mistakes.”

Arteta’s team have a perfect 100 per cent record in Premier League games where they had 11 on the pitch this season, with the Rice dismissal for flicking the ball away against Brighton coming in a 1-1 draw.

Trossard’s dismissal at Manchester City changed the complexion of the game as Arsenal were leading, while Saliba’s red came at 0-0 last weekend and Bournemouth went on to win.

“Everyone knows how important Saliba is for us but we have got top players who can play in that position who will come into the game and be ready for the challenge and to help the team to win the game,” said Raya.

The Liverpool fixture is a repeat of last season in February when Arsenal won 3-1 but also faced criticism for over-celebrating after the final whistle, with Martin Odegaard using the camera of a photographer to take pictures of his team-mates. Raya, however, says Arsenal will celebrate in the same style if they win this season.

“Every win in the Premier League is important and I think we should celebrate every win the same,” he said. “Of course, when we played them in the second half of the season and it was a massive three points for us and obviously that emotion for everybody to win against Liverpool is important and is incredible.

“If we win on Sunday, it’s going to be the same emotions and same celebrations.”

Arsenal are four points behind Liverpool and Raya expects an open title race, adding: “Anybody can win the league. They’re top and a top team. They’ve got a new manager and I think they’ve increased the level.

“They are very dangerous, they are going to play here to get the three points and we have to be ready for that. They’re a top, top team. There are a lot of top teams in the Premier League now, not just Manchester City, Liverpool and us.”
