Arsenal have submitted an appeal to the FA challenging the red card received by Myles Lewis-Skelly against Wolves at the weekend.

The teenager was controversially sent off on Saturday afternoon after fouling Matt Doherty in the first half of the Premier League clash. Referee Michael Oliver deemed the foul to be serious foul play and showed a straight red to the 18-year-old. VAR did not intervene and Mikel Arteta was left furious.

"I think it's that obvious that we don't need any comments today. Hopefully the right thing will happen after today," the Gunners boss said after the 1-0 win.

He added: "Well hopefully we don't need to [appeal]. If we have to, it's a really good precedent with what happened with Bruno [Fernandes vs Tottenham] this season. Hopefully.

"Ok we were in a position we shouldn't have been in, at least let's be in a position that we should be in for the next few weeks and allow our player to continue to do his job."

Lewis-Skelly is currently set to miss Arsenal's next three domestic matches; Premier League clashes against Man City and Leicester, as well as the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle. However, if Arsenal's appeal is successful, then the defender may be available for the clash on Sunday against the reigning champions.

With an appeal now lodged, the regulatory commission will hear the case in the coming days, which will include looking at written and video evidence. Oliver's version of events will be taken into account by the regulatory commission. They will then decide whether to uphold or overturn the three-game ban.

Lewis-Skelly is expected to be named in the travelling squad for Arsenal's last Champions League league phase match against Girona on Wednesday. He trained as normal on Tuesday morning at the Sobha Realty Training Centre, with the squad making the trip to Spain at some point on Tuesday afternoon.

This is a breaking story. More as we get it...
