Transfer deadline day is here with Arsenal hoping to be involved in late deals to aid their quest to close down Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

Clubs have until 11pm tonight (Monday) to complete any late deals, with Arsenal looking to strengthen in attacking areas. They were given a big boost in their title hopes on Sunday thanks to a 5-1 home win over Manchester City.

Goals from Martin Odegaard, Thomas Partey, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Kai Havertz and Ethan Nwaneri made it an afternoon to remember for the Gunners. The result saw them close the gap to Liverpool to six points, although the Reds still do have a game in hand.

Following the win, attention again turns to the transfer window and what the final few hours could bring. With that in mind, we’ve taken a look at two of the latest stories and also given our own thoughts.

Mathys Tel hope

Arsenal have been handed hope of completing a move for Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel on deadline day, with a transfer to Manchester United falling through. On Sunday, it was suggested that the player was open to a move to United, but the club were unable to reach an agreement with Bayern.

Arsenal have been linked with an interest in the forward in the final hours of the window. The collapse of the move to United opens up the pathway for the Gunners to now make their move.

FL says : Tel seems to be open to moving from Bayern on deadline day, in search of more game time. Injury to Bukayo Saka means that Arsenal are keen to add more attacking players to their squad before the end of the window.

It seems that Bayern are insisting on either a permanent deal or with an obligation to buy being inserted into the loan move. If that’s something that Arsenal are willing to do, then it could be a good move for all.

Mikel Arteta update

Mikel Arteta has said that it is ‘possible’ that Arsenal could add a forward player to their squad before the 11pm deadline. Speaking following the 5-1 win over Man City, he told Sky Sports: “I don’t know. I have been focused in the last 24 hours on what we had to do to try to beat Man City. Now we have done it, ok, we will discuss the situation as we always do, then Newcastle, that’s the important thing,” he said.

“It’s about intentions, and the intention…I think we have been very clear from every angle of what we want to do. And the other is the reality and what you are able to do.”

When asked about the prospect of a signing on deadline day, he said: “It’s always possible.”

FL says : The win over Man City has only added to the hope that Arsenal can close the gap on Liverpool in the title race. If the club are successful in bringing in a striker or forward player in the final hours of the transfer window, then that would be another big boost for those hopes.

It feels like a signing would fill one big missing piece of the puzzle for Arsenal.
