Arsenal receive £18.6m transfer boost after major Mikel Arteta hint and January deal confirmed
Mikel Arteta could see his January transfer budget increase with a deal already agreed this month possibly impacting Arsenal. Despite an injury to Bukayo Saka, the Gunners looked unlikely to make any new signings in the winter window but two further attacking blows could change that.
Ethan Nwaneri impressed as Saka's replacement on the right before picking up a minor issue which will likely keep him out until the end of the month. In the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United, Gabriel Jesus went off because of a knee injury with Arsenal later confirming he had damaged the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.
Following that injury blow, Arteta was asked about the January transfer window and if plans had been altered as a result. Speaking at a press conference, he said: "My answer doesn’t change. We are actively looking in the market to improve the squad. We have been since day one.

"It would be naive not to do that because there is always an opportunity to evolve the team and improve the squad. Especially with the circumstances we have. So yes, we are looking and let's see what we are able to do.” Since then, Arsenal have all but wrapped up a deal for Martin Zubimendi to join from Real Sociedad in the summer.
An attacking addition this month however, is still desired with Nico Williams as Arteta's priority, though a mid-season move from Athletic Bilbao is unlikely and his high wages are also expected to be a stumbling block.
Arsenal have also been linked with several strikers including Newcastle's Alexander Isak, RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko and Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic. Any of those arriving over the coming weeks, because of the sizeable fees involved, is extremely unlikely but a permanent departure could help matters.
Oleksandr Zinchenko is the latest to be linked with an exit as Borussia Dortmund are exploring a January deal, according to Sky Sports Germany.
Concrete talks are said to have already taken place with his entourage while Arsenal are open to a permanent exit with an obligation to buy in the region of £18.6million (€20m).
Though a temporary switch would be more likely, Dortmund will certainly have the funds to make a permanent purchase with a £22million (€26m) deal for Donyell Malen to join Aston Villa, ahead of their weekend clash against Arsenal, having been confirmed.
There is no guarantee that Dortmund use those funds immediately but interest from Germany and a subsequent offer for Zinchenko could arrive and with that, talks between the two parties could develop into a permanent sale.
