Arsenal are expected to oversee a number of midfield changes in this summer's transfer window. Despite having welcomed Declan Rice and Mikel Merino in the last two years, the Gunners could find themselves light on options in the engine room heading into the 2025/26 season.

That is because both Thomas Partey and Jorginho see their current contracts expire in just a few months with extension talks for either yet to take place. At 31 and 33 respectively, a mini-midfield rebuild looks on the cards alongside the hopeful addition of an elite-level striker.

However, Mikel Arteta has seemingly already prepared for a double departure with Martin Zubimendi expected to join from Real Sociedad this summer. Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Liverpool have all been turned down by the Spaniard in recent windows who is believed to have a £51million release clause in his contract.

Alongside the likely addition of Zubimendi to the squad, unless Myles Lewis-Skelly is moved inside to his more natural position, a second midfield signing is likely. With the bulk of funds likely to be used at the top end of the pitch, the Gunners may look at some talents for the future, bargain deals or even free agents.

One player that could be without a contract beyond June 30, 2025 is Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich. The Germany international has spent the last decade with the Bavarians but could depart on a free transfer this year.

The 29-year-old appeared destined to move on just 12 months ago but that is no longer considered a guarantee. Bayern director Max Eberl has also since provided an update on Kimmich's future, potentially hinting he is now more likely to stay. "Joshua Kimmich turns 30 on Saturday," he said as quoted by TZ.

"He has almost a decade of FC Bayern behind him. Players are people with their own life plans and not robots. And when Joshua says: Last summer I couldn't imagine extending my contract and now I've perhaps got it in my head to some extent and want to think about it - then that's legitimate for me."

Kimmich could certainly be the dream replacement for Partey or Jorginho if he can be acquired with minimal funds. However, it looks as though Bayern may be placing all of their focus on an extension after Alphonso Davies' extension was confirmed earlier this month.

The Canada international had been linked with Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid but he is now contracted to Bayern until 2030.
