Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya believes the Gunners can still close the gap to Liverpool and clinch a first Premier League title for the club since 2004.

Mikel Arteta's men recovered from going a goal down against Tottenham on Wednesday night to win 2-1 and reclaim second place in the table, after Nottingham Forest had leapfrogged them with a point against Liverpool 24 hours earlier.

Liverpool's lead over Arsenal at the top of the table now stands at just four points — although Arne Slot's side does have a game in hand — and goalkeeper Raya thinks he and his teammates could still end the season on top of the pile.

“In football, everything can happen,” Raya said. “Like I said, we just have to focus on ourselves - the next training session, the next recovery, the next game.

“Don’t think too much ahead, because that will play badly against us. Focus on ourselves, focus on the next game, don’t think too much about the future, just live in the present. That is the most important thing.

“It’s just too early to think about the end of the season and the title race and everything. It’s, like you said, three weeks ago people are saying that Liverpool had the title in their hands.

“It’s just football and everything changes in two, three games. We just have to focus ourselves. Try to win every game and we will see where we are at the end of the season.”

Liverpool has been Europe's in-form team this season but the Reds have experienced a relative dip in recent times, winning four of their last nine matches against Premier League opposition. To put that run into perspective, Liverpool won 18 of its first 20 matches of the campaign in all competitions.

Liverpool's most recent outing saw the team draw 1-1 with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday. Slot's players were pushing hard for a winner by the time injury-time arrived having gone a goal behind during the first half, and the Dutchman called on his players to start taking more advantage of their dominant spells in matches.

"We should be disappointed, although they are having a great season," Slot said. "We want to win every game and they probably want to win every game as well. With how the game went I think we can be disappointed. They are a counter-attacking team and I think we only conceded one counter-attack and for us to come from behind shows the character and quality the team has.

"We must not get a habit of not getting what we deserved because it happened at Tottenham and it happened today and the analysts might not agree but based on expected goals we deserved more than 2-2 draw against Manchester United too."
