Arsenal's reported midfield target Martin Zubimendi has hinted at a potential departure from Real Sociedad amid claims of interest from the Gunners and Barcelona.

The north London club is reportedly keeping tabs on the 25-year-old Spanish midfielder as they look to bolster their squad in the upcoming transfer window. Zubimendi, who has caught the eye of several top clubs, could be a key addition for Arsenal, especially with the possibility of Jorginho and Thomas Partey leaving in the summer.

Zubimendi's current deal includes a €60million (£52.6m) release clause that becomes active in the summer, presenting an opportunity for Arsenal to make a strategic move. Meanwhile, Barcelona, under Xavi's continued leadership, are also showing strong interest in the player.

Speaking to Marca, Zubimendi addressed the swirling transfer talk. He said: "They are just rumours, I am happy at Real Sociedad, it is like my home. I cannot say that I will play my entire career at Real Sociedad, perhaps the club won't want me to continue in the future. But I do not concern myself with these rumours."

Zubimendi has been turning heads with his performances in the Champions League this season, helping Sociedad reach the last 16 before being ousted by PSG. The La Liga side continues to be competitive and is set to feature in European competition again next season, reports the Mirror.

Bayern Munich could potentially join the chase for Zubimendi, who is reportedly keen to play under Xabi Alonso, his former coach at Sociedad. However, with Alonso choosing to stay with Bayer Leverkusen, a move to the Allianz Arena may not hold the same appeal.

Arsenal, aware of the stiff competition for Zubimendi's signature, have other players on their shortlist. Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa has been a long-standing target, but the Midlands club are expected to put up a fight to keep the Brazilian midfielder.
