Arsenal vs Wolves LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Arsenal edged to a 2-0 win at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers with goals by Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka getting their latest Premier League title challenge up and running on Saturday.

It was far from a fluent display in the summer sunshine but Mikel Arteta's side, once again regarded as the team most likely to halt Manchester City's domination, deserved the points.

Havertz headed in from Saka's cross in the 25th minute but the hosts never looked completely comfortable until Saka's clinical finish doubled their advantage in the closing stages. While the hosts dominated most of the game, the away side grew into the game when Arteta’s side started to tire, putting pressure on them after the German’s header.

Wolves had their chances with Rayan Ait-Nouri and Rodrigo Gomes both failing to trouble Arsenal keeper David Raya from promising positions when the score was still 1-0 until Saka’s fine strike .

Mikel Arteta reveals Declan Rice injury update after Arsenal beat Wolves

Mikel Arteta has confirmed Declan Rice is fine after he limped out of Arsenal’s opening day win over Wolves.

Rice came off with five minutes left of Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Wolves after going down and stretching his calf.

There had been fears the midfielder, who had a shortened off-season after helping England reach the final of Euro 2024, had picked up an injury.

Saka the driving force as Arsenal begin title dream with Wolves win

17:33 , Jonathan Gorrie

Arsenal fans are dreaming that this could be the season they end their long wait to win the Premier League again - and if Bukayo Saka is in this kind of form, they will take some stopping.

Just 37 days since Saka was playing in the final of Euro 2024, the winger was back in competitive action and kicking off the new season in style.

Saka was Arsenal’s standout performer as they opened their account with a 2-0 win over Wolves, setting up his side’s opening goal before scoring the second.

It was a classic performance from Saka, one we have become used to seeing, but the fact he did it after a shortened summer break made it all the more impressive.

Arsenal team news vs Wolves today

12:30 , Jonathan Gorrie

Arsenal have been boosted by the return of Jurrien Timber ahead of their Premier League opener with Wolves on Saturday.

Timber has been out of action with a foot injury, but took part in training this week ahead of Wolves’ visit to Emirates Stadium and Mikel Arteta has confirmed he will be in the squad.

“Obviously he had a really tough period but he used it in a great way,” said the manager on Friday. “He managed to get a lot of things done and improve in many areas that, except for playing, he found really, really helpful.”

The Dutchman may not go straight into the starting XI, though, with Oleksandr Zinchenko impressing at left-back in Arsenal’s last two pre-season games.

New signing Riccardo Calafiori may also have to settle for a place on the bench after only playing his first minutes for Arsenal last week in their Emirates Cup win over Lyon.

The rest of Arsenal’s defence picks itself, but Mikel Arteta faces a dilemma over who to start at the base of midfield. Jorginho and Thomas Partey are vying for the role, with the latter starting in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Lyon.

Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice should both start against Wolves, despite helping England reach the final of Euro 2024 this summer and missing Arsenal’s tour to the US.

Kai Havertz will hope to lead the line instead of Gabriel Jesus, but it is harder to call who starts on the left flank. Leandro Trossard has looked sharp during pre-season and may well get the nod over Gabriel Martinelli.

Fabio Vieira “looks better” after missing the win over Lyon with a hip injury while Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney are confirmed absentees with a “few weeks” until their return.
