Ashley Young delivers one-word verdict as Peterborough deny Everton star chance to play vs son
Ashley Young has delivered a one-word response after he was denied the chance to face off against his son Tyler in the FA Cup.
Everton booked their place in the fourth round of the competition with a 2-0 victory. Beto and Iliman Ndiaye both scored at Goodison Park. Young Snr was brought on with 73 minutes played, and many had hoped his son Tyler, an unused substitute for the Posh, would be given a chance to play, too.
With the League One side still pushing for an equaliser as the game approached injury time, Ndiaye's penalty in the 98th minute settled the affair and Young Jnr was prevented the chance. Everton defender Ashley took to X, formerly known as Twitter, after the game to express his discontent with the situation.

"GUTTED," he simply wrote, with the tweet having now amassed a whopping 2.1 million views since Thursday evening. The sentiment has caused a mixed review, with many feeling as if Tyler wasn't worthy of an opportunity to play, given he has made just one appearance for Peterborough so far this season.
Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony responded to another reply to Young's tweet, which called for manager Darren Ferguson to be fired following his decision not to bring Young Jnr on. "This nonsense has to stop," MacAnthony wrote. "My manger was 100% correct in his actions.
"This wasn’t some friendly or exhibition event. Tyler is doing fantastic with our 21’s and progressing phenomenally with bright future but bringing him on at that time considering circumstances around game with us one down with minutes left was not right thing for team.
"Putting stupid tweets out asking for him to be sacked is unintelligent and frankly moronic. In time even Ashley will appreciate this as opposed to his current feeling around it. Cheers."
Ferguson explained why Tyler wasn't brought on at Goodison Park, as he felt his side still had a chance to grab a late leveller. "It was very difficult to leave Tyler on the bench but I've got to do what I think is best for the team," said Ferguson.
"As much as I wanted Tyler to get on, if the game had been 2-0 at that point I would've put him on but at 1-0, I had to get a forward on. I've got to try and get something out of the game and do what is best for my team.
"One of their [Everton] players had a pop at me, which was bang out of order. We are not a charity case."
